Thankful Thursday: Blogging

As I'm sure you noticed, I took a sort of unintentional blogging break for pretty much all of March and most of April. I was completely in a rut. Burnt out from February. And had a huge case of blogger's block. I blogged so much in January and February that it became a very stressful chore. No longer an enjoyable hobby.

But I started to miss blogging after several weeks of neglecting the blog (or at least blogging very little). So when I was ready to start blogging again and I had no ideas, I was a little let down. It's hard to come back from a break. I got used to not blogging. My mind was out of practice.

Then, when I somehow got the creative juices moving again last week, new ideas were flowing through my head faster than I could write them down. And it's awesome! I sort of forgot how awesome blogging is.

I am thankful for the outlet blogging has given me.

I am thankful for the hobby it has become for me while Pearson works late.

I am thankful for the friends I've made while blogging even though I work from home and never see people in real life.

I am thankful for my readers and the feeling I get when I am able to help them even if it's on a very small scale.

I am thankful for blogging.

7 Date Ideas for Rainy Days

Well, April is almost over. Did you have tons of rain? We always say "April Showers bring May Flowers" but really all of spring is rainy in most parts of the country. I have to be honest... I love rain. I love watching rain storms and witnessing the power of our God first hand. I love walking, running, dancing, singing, kissing and whatever else I want to do in the rain.

But I am sure if I lived somewhere where it rained all the time, I would feel differently. I might feel about rain what I currently feel about snow: hate. I know most people aren't as crazy about rain as I am no matter where they live. So today I want to share some date ideas to make the rain a little less depressing

  • ONE || Go camping in your living room.

This is something Pearson and I actually do quite often. Maybe a couple times a year. Most recently, we did it this weekend with a little help from Date Box (aff)!
This month's date box was full of goodies for a camp out in our living room and I couldn't have been more excited when I opened it!
We had s'mores gear complete with supplies to make our own campfire scent candles. And a tortilla soup mix that was so yummy!
I pulled out our guest bedroom mattress and had everything set up waiting for Pearson to get home on Saturday so we could have as much time to spend on our date as possible.
I melted the wax and set the candles, put the soup on the stove, and texted Pearson the RedBox code so he could pick up our free movie (included in the Date Box) on the way home.
We ate the soup in the cute campfire mugs while we read through the "Adventure" booklet. It was so much fun to reminisce about the adventures we've had together and dream about all the adventures in our future.
We had decided to rent The Big Short from Red Box so we put it in and started assembling our s'mores.
We slept on the mattress in the living room Saturday night after the movie was over. And we slept there Sunday night and Monday night too! The last time we did that was at Christmas time so it was about time again. Technically it wasn't raining outside when we had our indoor campout, but that would be a perfect time! Click here to subscribe to Get Date Box and get $10 off your first box!

  • TWO || Have an indoor picnic.

Sometimes you just really want to have a picnic, right? But it's raining. Or it's too cold. Or it's snowing. We've only ever done this a couple times (unless you count our indoor camp outs as picnics too), but it's just fun to switch things up and eat on the floor sometimes, you know?
Sorry for the blurry pictures. They're old. From before I knew how to take good pics.

  • THREE || Go for a run in the rain.

Tell me I'm not the only one who loves running/dancing/playing in the rain. Forget your cares and get out there with your spouse. Goof off and make memories!

  • FOUR || Have a coffee date.

Or an ice cream date if coffee isn't your thing. If you're tired of being stuck inside in the rain, then make an excuse to get out!

  • FIVE || Read a book together

This is something we normally do in the car on a road trip. The passenger will read aloud to the driver. We've also read books about marriage together like this. Especially before we were married as part of our "pre-marital counseling." But why not extend that to any type of book. On a rainy afternoon, instead of vegging in front of the TV, pull out a fun fiction novel and get engrossed in the story together.

  • SIX || Have a game night

Play board games, card games, or video games. Make it interesting. Loser does dishes for a week or gives the other one a back massage. You can have fun even though it's raining!

  • SEVEN || Reminisce

One of my favorite things to do with Pearson is reminisce about old times. We'll go through our Facebook profiles and talk about all our fun memories from college. You could also watch your wedding video or at least listen to your wedding CD and look through your pictures. We haven't done this in along time. And what better backdrop than a downpour outside your window?
You see? Rainy days aren't so bad. Especially if you get to spend them with your sweetie! What would you add to my list? Thanks for reading!

Understanding the Proverbs 31 Woman

If you're anything like me (and a lot of women I know), then the Proverbs 31 Woman can be hard for you to understand sometimes. Sometimes we get mad at her. How can she be so perfect? How can we be expected to live that way? Is that really what Christian men are looking for in a wife? It's unattainable!

But today I want to share with you a few things I learned last year from the Good Morning Girls Bible study in Proverbs 31. Maybe you won't hate her so much after this.
Head over to Grace, Love, Life to continue reading this guest post I wrote over there!

7 Simple Ways to Improve your Marriage in Only 15 Minutes

Marriage is tough sometimes, am I right? And I'm willing to bet your life is super busy. A lot of times our marriage gets put on the back burner. We get comfortable with each other and put our time and energy into something else.

But your marriage is the most important relationship you have. And it takes work! I know there are seasons of life where you'll be able to work on your marriage better than others. But please always try to make it a priority in your life.
Today I have 7 simple ways you can improve your marriage RIGHT NOW in just 15 minutes or less...
  • Write out a list of things you love about your husband. This will bring those things to the front of your mind and you'll be able to remember them when you're upset. Also keep the list handy for those days you need a reminder of why he's so great.
  • Plan a date night for this weekend and write it down in your planner in pen.
  • Stop what your doing and ask your husband what you can do to be a better wife. Make a plan to implement it. And don't get angry. Think of it as constructive criticism.
  • Text him one of these love note ideas.
  • Pray for your husband and your marriage.
  • If you're both at home right now, go give him a kiss lasting at least 15 seconds.
  • Another thing for if you're both home. cuddle for at least 15 minutes.
Seriously these small things don't seem like much but they can make a big difference in how your relationship will do for the rest of the day and week. So try it.
What is something you could add to my list?
Thanks for reading!

Ten on Tuesday: Spring Wish List

I know it's technically been spring for about a month now, but it's just now starting to feel like it here. And while fall is absolutely my favorite season, spring is a close second. So today I though I'd share my wish list for spring. There's just something about the warmer weather that makes me want to go shopping. Maybe it's because I've been stuck inside all winter and nobody saw my wardrobe anyway.

So here's what I want this spring. Maybe you'll find something you want and add it to your wish list. Or maybe you'll find something perfect for your mom for Mother's Day. This post contains affiliate links.

  • ONE || A Daisy Handbag

Daisies are my favorite flower and I love how popular they are lately in the fashion world. When I saw this "Oops A Daisy" Kate Spade handbag I knew I wanted it. Of course, it's Kate Spade so it's a little on the expensive side. So here's a cheaper version but it's not quite as cute.

  • TWO || A Bright, Fun Saddle Bag

For some reason cross-body bags are so much more important to me in the spring and summer. I love them year round, but in the warmer months when I'm outside exploring a lot, a cross body bag is a must. Also, it has to be a bright, light, fun color. Here is a blue one by Marc Jacobs but I honestly like this $25 one even better. And here is another very cute option.

  • THREE || Aviators

I'll be honest, I've always sort of hated aviators. I am very sensitive to the sun and need sunglasses that wrap around my eyes. Aviators have too much space. Also, I've always thought they were too big for my face. But I've grown to love them and now I want a pair! Here are some expensive Ray-Bans. And here is a cheaper option.

  • FOUR || Crochet Toms

I've had my eye on these for a while. And they're perfect for spring! Aren't the lilac ones just fabulous?

  • FIVE || Floral Wedges

I actually have a pair that's very similar to this one, but I had to include them on here because I LOVE them and I am so excited to wear them now that it's spring.

  • SIX || Crochet Shorts

Several springs and summers have gone by while I looked at crochet shorts with longing and never bought them. I think it's because I don't really know what I would wear them with and part of me thinks they're not practical. But since I still can't get them off my mind, I might be buying this beautiful pair this year.

  • SEVEN || White Lace Dress

White and lace/crochet just screem spring, don't they? I don't own a little white dress and I really want one this season. Here's a cute one I found that's not too short or too low. Because, you know, it's hard to find that in a dress these days.

  • EIGHT || Floral Maxi Dress

I also have one or two of these already. But you can never have enough, am I right? And this one is quite a bit different from all of mine with bigger flowers, a wrap look, and sleeves. It looks perfect for an effortless yet flawless look.

  • NINE || White Skinny Jeans

You can't have spring and summer without the perfect pair of white skinnies, am I right? Unfortunately, I don't currently own a pair of white pants. They're all either old and stained or too tight.

  • TEN || Daisy Jewelry

As I said before, daisies are my favorite flower. So I was so excited when I started researching for this post and found that they are super popular this year! Besides the Kate Spade handbag I already talked about, I found a cute gold bangle, and two rings that I think go together: this one and this one. It's all so cute!

So there you have it. My spring wish list. Too bad I'm not a mother. And I don't have a birthday or anything coming up. But if you want to get me any of these things just for fun, I wouldn't complain. ;)

What would you add to my list?

Gilmore Girls Rant

So funny story. Once upon a time, about a year ago, I started watching season seven of Gilmore Girls. You see, I watched it some as a teenager while it was still on TV, but I had to stop watching before the end of the series because my dad watched an episode with me and banned me from watching any more. So when it came to Netflix in October of 2014, I was psyched!!

So I binged and it took me a few months to watch the entire series. I was always #TeamLuke. I always have been. So when [spoilers] they broke up and then Lorelai did the unthinkable, I was furious. And, since I hadn't seen the ending yet, I thought she was going to end up with Christopher!

The following is a little rant I wrote while I was watching season seven and I thought Lorelai and Chris were going to end up together. Since a lot has happened this week with the new Gilmore Girls Revival (Melissa McCarthy is coming back and these photos were released), I thought I'd share this with you now. It cracks me up because as we know, she doesn't end up with Christopher. Okay enough rambling. Lets get to it.
source
*Spoiler Alert!!! This post contains spoilers for both Gilmore Girls and How I Met Your Mother so if you are watching either of those or plan to and don't want the endings spoiled, stop reading! Ok you've been warned. No don't blame me if you read something you didn't want to.

So first of all, I sorta get that Christopher and Loralai "belong together." I mean he's Rori's father. They have a LONG history together going back to their teenage years. He understands her relationship with her parents because he was around back in the day.

But here's my question: Why did they spend so much time in the show on Luke and Lorelai liking each other, flirting, getting together, breaking up, getting together again, getting engaged etc. Just to tragically break them apart??

Also Luke > Christopher in EVERY way! Christopher is very flakey and Luke is so reliable. Luke has been Rori's father figure all her life while Christopher was who knows where. Luke built Lorelai a chuppah for her wedding with Max. He built her an ice skating rink in her front yard to help her make up with snow. He always fixed anything broken in her house. He also made her a Santa burger even though he was grumpy and un-festive. He's always there for her.

And where was Chris all this time? Non-existant. Now all of a sudden though he's around and attractive because has money! That makes me hate Lorelai! (of course I don't actually hate her. I hate the stupid new writers of season seven who made her do this stuff).
source
So sure, Chris isn't gonna flake now because he has money and because Sherry did that to him, but still. He doesn't deserve a second chance when Luke has been ever patient with Lorelai for the entire series!!!

I've thought a lot about it and it's a lot like the ending of HIMYM. And I am in the minority that actually likes the ending of HIMYM. But here's the difference... in HIMYM, Ted actually got to be with Tracy (the mother) and get married and have kids. Then Tracy died. That's why I am okay with Ted going back to Robin because they "belong together."

However in Gilmore Girls, Lorelai and Luke were just stupid and didn't communicate at all. There were so many times one of them would say or do something and I would be yelling at the TV or laptop "Say that exact thing to Luke!" Or "Tell her! Tell her right now before she finds out from someone else!"

Ugh. Stupid. Rant over.

Tell Me Something Good - 5 on Friday

Hello and happy Friday!!! I am so ready for this week to be over. Can I get an, amen? Y'all, it has been a rough one. It snowed a couple times this week. Need I remind you that it's April? Apparently I need to remind Ohio. I've still been in sort of a rut. I haven't been keeping up with my goals. And work has been pretty stressful, but I won't get into that.
So anyway, I thought I'd focus on some things that make me happy today. Aside from the fact that it's Friday, of course! Also, I am so thankful for Chelsea's Tell Me Something Good linkup on Fridays. It always makes me smile. So here are my good things from the week:

I am currently one of Emily's contributors and I'm so thankful for the opportunity. This means, starting last month, I will be posting on her blog once a month for six months. Check out today's post here

  • TWO || Today I am also part of a fun collaboration over on Simple Moments Stick

Susannah is showing off some cute spring outfits submitted by different bloggers. She's also put an emphasis on the simplicity of spring wardrobes which is one of the best parts of this season, am I right? Check out the post here.

  • THREE || The Prayerful Bloggers group is back up and running.

I have been a member of the Prayerful Bloggers group for a while now but for some reason it died down after a while. Recently, Makeda of Being Mrs. Mom stepped up and took the reigns on this group to get it back off the ground again. And I'm loving it! I am in charge of the Instagram account and eventually we'll start having people take over the account for a day. And next Thursday I'll be writing on the Prayerful Bloggers blog. Exciting things!

  • FOUR || I was offered a opportunity to review another eShakti dress

I reviewed a dress from eShakti a couple years ago and it was a wonderful experience. I LOVE this company. And funnily enough, I just talked to Brita the other day about eShakti and how I would love to review another dress and maybe I should reach out to them again. Then they reached out to me the next day! Woo!

  • FIVE || Lots of fun Star Wars stuff happened this week.

First of all, we pre-ordered the blu-ray of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it came in the mail on Tuesday! AND we're going to watch it tonight. I'm pumped! (We watched it 4 times in theaters...). Secondly, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story official teaser trailer was released yesterday and it gave me chills! And lastly, on Tuesday I somehow stumbled across this 45 minute video that maps out all the Easter Eggs and references in The Force Awakens. I watched all 45 minutes and geeked out the entire time. I even surprised myself with how much I loved that video!
So I guess it wasn't that terrible of a week after all. How was your week? What was something good that happened to you this week? Thanks for reading!

UPDATE (4/8 @ 12:15 pm): I just found out that Melissa McCarthy is joining the Gilmore Girls revival!!! This may trump all the other things on this list for making me happy!

Lessons from the Presidential Election about Communication

You know what I've noticed about this election? Among many other things, I've noticed that politicians often have difficulties communicating with us voters. They often say things without much explanation.
Take Donald, he simply makes blanket statements. "We'll build a wall" without much substance. There is a why behind building the wall. But it's not a very good one. However there is no how or when. He's not communicating to the people very effectively. He's just saying things to get a rise out of people.

Do you ever do this in your marriage? It could go a couple of different ways. Maybe you make blanket promises to your spouse without much substance and because there was no planning or communicating up front, the promise never gets fulfilled.

Example: "We should spend a weekend in Chicago some time while we're living only a few hours away"

Or maybe you just say some outlandish blanket statement to get a rise out of your spouse. Or you just say whatever they want to hear with no intention of following through. (I sincerely hope this is the case with Trump... Those poor supporters).

Example: "I promise I'll give you the moon once I can reach it." (A little crazy. But then again so is building a wall).

Example: "I promise I'll fix the leaky sink this weekend!"

In contrast to Trump (and also pretty much any of the other candidates), let's try to give thorough responses and back up our promises and opinions with substance.

Example: "Hamilton is going to Chicago in September. We should plan a long weekend. I've set an alert on my phone to remind me when tickets go on sale and I've already talked to my boss about taking a few days off then."

Example: "I cannot give you the moon, but if I could I would."

Example: "I promise I will fix the leaky sink this weekend. I don't have to go into work on Saturday till after noon, so I'll get up and do it in the morning. Also, I helped my dad fix our sink in high school so it shouldn't be so difficult."

See the difference?
So do you communicate like politicians sometimes? I sure do.
Thanks for reading!
