My Best Friend's Wedding

So, if you don't already know, my best friend is getting married in one week!!! (I have already posted about it a little-and my love for weddings in general- herehere and here) I am super pumped. I am so blessed and honored to be her matron of honor. I am excited to return the favor she bestowed upon me so beautifully last year.
Me and Ashley as my maid of honor in my wedding.
Ashley and I are best friends but we got to that point in a sort of round-about way. We are 2 years apart which is usually not a big deal but when one of you is in college and the other in high school, it makes a big difference... let me start from the beginning.
Us at Harding Honor Choir 5 years ago with our matching hoodies.
We met 5 years ago at Harding University honor choir. I had just graduated from high school (in Georgia) and was about to start my freshman year at Harding University (in Arkansas). She was going into her Junior year of high school (in Tennessee). After the choir camp, we went our separate ways but always kept in touch on Facebook.

When Ashley came to Harding 2 years later, we hit it off really well from the start like we were best friends already. We had a lot in common, namely both having brought our high school boyfriends to college with us. You would be surprised at how much this transition can bring two girls who share this similarity together. (In 7 days we will BOTH be married to said boyfriends! That's what's up!) Later that year, she pledged the social club i was in and we were put in the same prayer group. You know the saying "Sisters who pray together, stay together"? Well it is so true. There is just something about opening up to a friend and having them pray with you and for your struggles and you doing the same for her. We will forever have that bond.
Ashley, I am so happy for you and I pray that your marriage will be as rewarding for you as God intends for marriage to be. Love you!

I am so excited to go to Memphis next weekend and watch this couple start their beautiful life together and help as much as I can in the process.

Thanks for reading!

Oh! P.S. She unknowingly picked the same exact bridesmaid dresses that I had in my wedding! If that isn't evidence that we are best-friend-soul-mates, I don't know what is!

Thankful Thursday: Netflix

How did I forget a Thankful Thursday post yesterday? I guess I have been so busy getting ready for showers and weddings, it just completely slipped my mind. :)

Today (late again) for Thankful Thursday I am thankful for...

So basically, Pearson and I have lived off of Netflix since we got married. This could be a bad thing. Maybe I shouldn't say that... Hmm. Anywho....

When we first got a Netflix account right after we moved, we started watching Supernatural from the beginning. We watched 7 seasons in 4 months and got caught up to what is on TV. Then we watched the first season of Once Upon a Time and caught up with that too. We then watched The 10th Kingdom (cheesy but oh so good), the entire Heroes series, and many movies. Read other posts about these here and here.

I am thankful for Netflix because it is so easy to watch shows and movies anywhere. I watch on my laptop, our Xbox, and my phone. It has also allowed us to find new stuff that we wouldn't watch if we didn't have an account. It is pretty sweet.

Thanks for reading a late and quick Thankful Thursday!

Thankful Thursday: Hope

Today for Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for...
Granddaddy Harris, Grandma Harris, Me and Pearson at our wedding.
I am thankful that we have hope for eternal life with our Father in Heaven. Pearson's grandfather passed away Monday night. Currently we are on our way to Valdosta, Ga for the funeral tomorrow. Losing a loved one is one of the toughest things we as humans have to experience here on Earth. It is hard. It can tear you apart. But we have hope for Granddaddy Harris. We know we will see him again, and we know he is not sad or in pain any more but he is with our Father in Heaven. I am very thankful for that because frankly, I don't know if I could watch people I love pass through this life without this hope. I don't think I could get through the hurt.

Thanks for reading.

Thankful Thursday: Prayer

Today for Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for...

I am thankful for the avenue of prayer that God gave us as a way of communication. We can talk to our Father to praise Him, thank Him and ask for our needs. We do not have a distant God but one right here with us always. We have the ability and freedom to talk to Him anytime and anywhere! I am thankful I can talk to Him as a father, friend, helper, healer, sustainer or anything I need Him to be because Christ made the ultimate sacrifice to forgive our sins so we can have a close relationship with our Creator!

Not only am I thankful that I can go to God in prayer any time I want to make myself feel better, but I am thankful that He hears my prayers. And He hears the prayers of others on my behalf. I believe in the power of prayer. I am thankful that God hears and answers. Whether he answers the way I want is a different story but I am thankful he listens and takes my wants into account.

I am thankful that I can directly tell God how thankful I am for everything he has done for me and given to me. I know all good gifts come from God and I am glad I can try to express to Him anytime and all the time how blessed I feel because of Him.

Lastly, I am thankful that I can talk to God to just tell Him (or try to) how awesome He is. Words truly cannot describe our God but, I am thankful that I can personally praise Him anyway.

Thankful Thursday: Mid Week Bible Study

OOPS! Forgot to publish this yesterday!!
Today for Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for...

Wednesday Night Bible Study at Fishinger and Kenny Church of Christ
Fishinger and Kenny Church of Christ
The auditorium at Fishinger and Kenny website
Pearson and I have always believed we should meet with the church wherever we are, whenever possible. Meeting with the church is good because there is always something to be learned from the preacher and always someone new to pray for/with, but most of all... We love being with our brothers and sisters to encourage and be encourage.

After all, the Hebrews writer suggested in Hebrews 10...
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Last night we went to church for bible study and it was all so uplifting. In class we talked about a couple hymns and what they mean and the stories behind them. It was very interesting. We talked about how we sing for several reasons. First, to glorify God, and second to encourage each other. We talked about what these songs teach us. But not only was the devotional and class uplifting and encouraging, talking to friends afterwards was just as much. We stayed after until they turned the lights out on us. It was pretty awesome. We talked about upcoming wedding showers, about God vs. Science, and about the latest movies we have seen in theaters. It is so nice to have these friends to encourage and be encouraged by.

Basically, I am thankful for Fishinger and Kenny Church, and many other churches over the world, who have mid-week bible studies for a pick-me-up in the middle of the week. We should and do study and spend time with God every day of the week, but there is just something about being with other believers in fellowship and worship.

I think God for this church we have found, for His church in general, for our friends with like minds, and particularly now, for our Wednesday night meetings.

Operation Wardrobe Revamp

So recently I have been looking at some style blogs and paying more attention to fashion on Pinterest and on myself. I'm not really sure where the motivation for this came from. I realize since I work from home, I almost never get dressed up. And what I really mean by that is I wear pajamas or sweats most days. So my sense of style is getting a little slack.
Here is my fashion Pinterest page if you want to look at some blogs and pins inspiring me recently.

Sooo anyway, I decided it was time re-organize my closet. I switched my winter clothes out for summer/spring clothes, and started a "donation box".
Get rid of clothes
There are 30+ items in there.
My plan was to take this box to Plato's Closet to get some cash for what they would take and donate the rest. I would use the cash to buy some essentials there that I know my wardrobe is missing. Well, they only bought 2 items out of the box... I got a whopping $5.50. This is when I realized that I keep clothes for way too long. Plato's Closet won't take any of the stuff I am trying to get rid of because I basically wore it until I couldn't anymore. This means nobody else wants to wear it either.

So I decided to tweak my collection a little and try again. I added some bags and accessories I never wear or use. I took out items I knew they wouldn't buy, or at least not this season (sweaters and jackets). Some items I left in but I washed and ironed them first.
Get rid of clothes
Now just a half-full paper bag- 5 clothing items, 2 bags and some jewelry.
They bought 1 shirt (a retry), both bags and about half the jewelry for a total of $12.90. This is when I realized my clothes are not trendy enough for Plato's Closet... Hmmm...

So what did I buy with my $18.40 (plus a little more)?
  • This denim jacket because I didn't own one and I love them on other people. And it goes with pretty much anything.
Jean Jacket
  • These supper cute red jeans. I am loving colored denim right now and have been wanting a red pair for a while.
Red skinny jeans
  • This perfect neutral cardigan. I have a black one and several fun colors, but nothing white, tan, or any kind of neutral.
Neutral Cardigan
I feel so much better having all those items out of my closet. They will be donated soon, but not for money.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. I am in love with these pants. I bought them from the Kohl's clearance rack a couple weeks ago, so I figured they could be considered part of the wardrobe revamp.
