Bringing Back the Weekly Date Night - Marriage & Relationship Goals {link up}

Last month, my goal for our marriage was better communication. I think we both did pretty well on that goal in general. I didn't put technology away as much as I should have and we didn't go to bed early every night, but overall we did a lot better with our communicating.
That goal stemmed from the chapter we had just read in His Needs Her Needs by Willard F. Harley Jr. (our young married couples group from church is reading through this book and discussing one chapter each month). A few weeks ago, we read the chapter about recreational companionship. I had no idea how important that is to most men. Men (for the most part) love to have their significant other do things with them and it is very important for your relationship to have common interests and activities.
I'll admit, I've been guilty of assuming Pearson would rather be doing things with his guy friends while I do my own thing. It just seems logical and practical. Wouldn't he rather watch the game with the guys than with me? And I know he doesn't wanna come along shopping with me all the time. But through reading and discussing this chapter, I learned that isn't always the case.
So my goal for this month is to have an intentional weekly date night. I am going to make it a priority to do something fun with Pearson at least once per week. Now watching TV on the couch doesn't count and a ten minute dinner conversation doesn't count either.
So here are some date ideas I'm gonna try to incorporate this month and the rest of the Summer.
  • Take Pip to the dog park.
  • Go for a bike ride.
  • Walk around the brand new, really nice Walmart that just opened within walking distance from our apartment.
  • Go on a long walk with a specific topic of conversation in mind.
  • Play the "Newlywed Game" with these 40 questions to ask your spouse from Amanda at Notes from a Newlywed.
  • Work on our garden/patio.
  • Chill on our back patio all night just talking like we used to in our dating days.
  • Go see a movie, but be intentional about discussing the movie afterwards.
  • Have a picnic.
  • Go to the Ohio State Fair.
  • Walk around a new part of Columbus we've never seen before.
What could you add to my list of date ideas?
