A New Beginning - Marriage and Relationship Goals {link up}

Today is the first Monday of September!

That seems weird because we've already almost had a whole week of September. But, alas, that's the way the calendar works. Anyway, the first Monday of the month means it's time for our monthly Marriage and Relationship Goals so lets get into it, shall we?

Last month, I set the goal to go on one intentional, out-of-the-house date night per week. I think we did pretty well, although I don't know how intentional some of them were. Sometimes we just spontaneously said "lets go to Steak-n-Shake." But those kind of dates are important too!

This month, I want to make some very specific goals that span areas I haven't really touched on with my relationship goals much in the past. September, to me, represents a new beginning. A new school year (though that doesn't really affect us anymore), a new season, a new routine. I'm getting serious about my personal goals this month and using them to make myself better in every aspect. So I want to do the same in our marriage.

ONE || Get more serious about budgeting.
At the beginning of the year, we sat down and set a budget to stick to. We kept to it and moved things around as needed through the spring. Especially while we had only one car and we were saving up for another. But once we bought that car and got busy over the summer, we dropped the budget. I want to get serious about it again as we start heading into the holiday season.

TWO || Make more meals at home.
I talked about this in my currently post on Wednesday, but we have gotten into a bad habit of eating out way too much. It's mostly thanks to my summer full of The Music Man rehearsals, but that ended more than a month ago. We don't have an excuse anymore, but it's hard to get out of the habit. So I'm setting the goal to eat at home at least 5 nights per week! We'll see how that goes.

THREE || Exercise together.
Pearson and I will both admit that we've been skipping our work outs over the summer. So with this "new beginning," we are both going to get more serious in the exercise area. And we're gonna try to do a lot together to make it more fun. I want to go for a long walk after dinner every possible night. And on the weekends, I want to try to do something active together whether we go to the gym, go for a bike ride, or a hike, or something totally different.

FOUR || Go on at least 2 dates from my list of fall date ideas.
I want to continue intentional dates, but Pearson is back into the busy school year. Yes, he works year round, but during the school year (this year anyway), he has to teach on top of his research. So that makes him more busy than he is in the summer. So I'll set the goal to go on 2 intentional dates this month. And I want to choose some dates from my fall dates post from last year because it's almost fall and all those things are so fun! Don't worry, I'll blog about them!

So those are my very specific (and maybe ambitious) marriage goals for this "new beginning". (I like the way that sounds and may continue to call September that).
